Juliet Thomas’ crime novel 31 Milton Road was the winner of the Jenny Brown Associates Debut Writers Over 50 Award in 2025. The first in her family to go to university, Juliet studied History at Trinity College, Cambridge specialising in political philosophy.

In 1995 she won a Betty Trask prize for her unpublished novella but fed-up of temping and unable to gain publication she opted for a career in finance which taught her to silence verbosity and dispatch a ‘baggy plot’. Twenty-one years later, in 2018, she returned to her first love, wrote two novels in the Radiant Grey series of which 31 Milton Road is the first, and in 2024 gained a place on a Curtis Brown Creative Writing Your Novel – Three Months Course.
