Originally from the North East of England, Rebecca Roberts studied French and Italian at the University of Cambridge. She spent her year abroad studying Art History at Cà Foscari University in Venice, followed by an MA in the Art of Florence and Central Italy at the Courtauld Institute of Art.

After a decade working in the London art world, she moved to Scotland in 2020, and in 2022 founded Night Owl Books, an independent bookshop in East Linton. She continues to live in East Lothian, where, alongside writing her debut historical novel, she is renovating a ruined church with her husband.
